As Director of Network Operations, Shane helps lead everything from making sure our clinical teams have the right equipment, at the right price, right when they need it, to making sure that we're partnering with the best National partners who share our commitment to delivering Better Care By Design. In this week's Muve Spotlight Series, learn more about Shane and his vision for helping power the healthcare delivery model of the future.
What is your role as Director of Network Operations at Muve Health?
As Director of Network Operations, I'm responsible for ensuring Muve has the right operational processes and infrastructure in place to deliver high quality care care and to obtain reimbursement efficiently. This primarily covers supply chain, revenue cycle, and operational analytics.
Why did you join Muve Health?
Throughout my professional healthcare life, I've always employed a patient-centered approach. At times, this can be a difficult connection to make when you are working in finance, accounting, or analytics for a large healthcare organization. But at Muve, this patient-centered approach is always a focus and the superior patient experience is felt everyday. It's rare to have an opportunity to truly create a positive change in any industry, especially healthcare , and at Muve I know I am part of a team doing just that.
What were you up to before joining Muve Health?
Immediately before Muve, I was working at Kaiser Permanente on their Risk Adjustment and Affordable Care Act team assisting with analytics, operations, and reporting. Prior to Kaiser, I was at Surgical Care Affiliates on the financial operations team assisting with finance, operations, and analytics.
Which Muve Value do you steward? Why?
Partnership. My role has me working with a large number of vendors throughout the industry. For some, these vendor relationships are contractual and managed like signatures and stats on paper, not partnerships between people. For me, I view every vendor as a partner and always strive to cultivate strong relationships. At the end of the day, besides being the right thing to do this provides greater value to all parties!
Why did you choose to work in healthcare?
To be honest, the beginning of my healthcare career path was less intentional than others. However, I continue to work and enjoy healthcare because there is tremendous opportunity for improvement and it plays such an essential role in everyone's life.
What excites you most about Muve in 2018?
Taking our unique, innovative model to more markets. I truly believe we are changing healthcare and positively impacting lives. I want more people to have the Muve experience.
What is the career path that led you to Muve?
Marshall Maran, the Muve CEO, and I worked together previously. He had been talking to me about the Muve model since its inception and I always wanted to join the team, when the time was right. I've now been part of the team for two years!
What is different about the Muve experience vs. other care settings or joint replacement programs?
There's a lot we could cover here! However, I think the biggest differentiator is the episodic approach to the care we deliver, meaning that we think about a patient's surgical, recovery and full care experience from start to finish, not just the surgery itself, or surgery plus a few days after surgery. This approach leads to higher quality outcomes, more engaged patients, and an overall better experience.
If you could describe Muve in one word, what would it be?
Innovative.
...and Lastly, What is your best Muve Memory?
The day we did our first total joint arthroplasty, in April of 2017. I recall sitting outside of the building, after conversing with the amazing clinical team, feeling gratitude.
