10 Questions with Muve Health: Meet our Project Manager, Jeanie

We're thrilled to welcome aboard our new Muve Health Project Manager, Jeanie!  Jeanie studied sports medicine and worked as an athletic trainer in Nashville before joining Emory Healthcare in Atlanta as a senior manager of clinic operations in the orthopaedics department, which means she brings to Muve a powerful combination of patient-centric experience and clinical operations expertise. Jeanie will be helping lead the team in building new Muve Health locations across the country, applying thoughtful design and patient-focused thinking as we expand our scope in delivering Better Care By Design to total joint replacement patients in the U.S. Read more to learn about Jeanie, her experience, and her thoughts on what Muve is creating!

What is your role as Project Manager for Muve?

My role as the Project Manager is to help design, build and open our new Muve Health Centers across the country. I will help coordinate and keep our team organized with the several steps and phases required in each project.

Why did you join Muve Health?

I joined Muve Health because I wanted a role that allowed me to expand upon my healthcare construction experience. Joining a company that kept me working with orthopedics was also a huge bonus since I've spent my entire career working in orthopedics to some degree.

What were you up to before joining Muve?

I worked at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA as a senior manager of clinic operations in the department of orthopaedics. I was responsible for the design/build/opening of new orthopaedic clinics in the Atlanta metro area. I also managed daily clinical operations at multiple clinics, provided marketing & communications support, and provided strategy and business development support for the community outreach program.

Which Muve Value do you steward? Why?

Transparency. I'm a firm believer in being transparent and having open communication. You don't have to be rude or mean to be direct and intentional. I have found it is easier to accomplish goals if there is transparency from the start. One of my biggest learnings in my career is to not make assumptions. It is better to just ask the question so everyone is clear on the front end.

Why did you choose to work in healthcare?

I love to help people. I was at a career fair in high school and learned about physical therapy as a profession. I fell in love with the idea of helping people get back to the things they love in life. I still have that mentality and have really enjoyed being able to influence a patient's experience.

What is the life path that led you to Muve?

I started my career in Sports Medicine as an athletic trainer in Nashville, TN. I worked in a physical therapy clinic in the mornings and went to a high school in the afternoons and provided medical coverage to all the athletes at the school. I also provided clinical support to a physician and acted as a physician extender. From that role, I moved to an event & marketing coordinator where I worked on our marketing materials, websites, community sponsorships, and community events/seminars. Then I was recruited to Atlanta to work with a former boss as a marketing/program manager to help leverage the existing partnerships we had in the community and seek out new partnership opportunities. Then I was promoted to a senior manager and added daily clinical operations to my role which included oversight of 3 clinic locations and about 75 staff. Once I had an appropriate leadership infrastructure in place on my team, I added project management for the design, build, and opening of 10 new locations to my role. In the summer of 2017, my husband and I decided we wanted to move to Denver to be closer to the mountains. We always said we would retire to the mountains someday, but we asked ourselves why 'someday' couldn't be 'now'... So we started the wheels in motion to move halfway across the country. It was important for my next career step to include healthcare construction. Muve Health was a perfect fit for what I was looking for. I wanted to continue with construction and project management, but I also wanted to work for a smaller company as I had only ever worked in very large health systems. I 'grew' up in orthopedics and that is my wheelhouse... So when I found the position with Muve, it was a perfect fit!!

What does Better Care By Design mean to you?

We have tried to be very thoughtful and intentional about how we design our Muve Health Centers taking in to account the perspectives from the patients, physicians, staff and guests. By being intentional in the design, we believe we can provide an improved outcome and experience for entire group.

What is different about the Muve patient experience vs. other programs or care settings?

We are empowering patients to take control of their experience and their recovery. In other programs, patients don't take as active of a role. Our program allows patients and their family members to gain confidence in being able to care for themselves and be knowledgeable on the best recovery path.
